Many UAE residents spend weeks away each summer, visiting family abroad or travelling for work. Invisalign is ideal for people on the move because there are no wires to break, but long trips still require planning. The right travel kit and a few simple habits mean you can come back with your treatment progressing exactly as planned.
Tell your dentist your travel dates at least a few weeks in advance. Depending on your progress, they may provide several upcoming trays to take with you, along with written instructions about when to switch. Longer trips may need a check-in by photo or video. If attachments or refinements are due, they can be scheduled around your departure.
Your kit should include your current aligners and the next set, your previous set as a backup, a sturdy case, a travel toothbrush and toothpaste, floss or interdental brushes, aligner chewies, and a small cleaning solution or tablets. Keep everything in your hand luggage, never in checked bags, in case luggage is delayed.
Keep aligners in during the flight and remove them only for meals. Drink water regularly, as cabin air is dry. After eating, brush in the aircraft washroom or, at minimum, rinse thoroughly before putting aligners back in. Wrapping aligners in a napkin on a tray table is a common way to lose them, so always use the case.
Holidays often mean long meals and frequent snacking. Try to group eating into meal times and keep total time out under a few hours each day. When crossing time zones, keep switching trays based on the number of days worn rather than the calendar date. A phone reminder can help maintain your routine.
If you lose your current tray, move to the previous one if it still fits snugly, or to the next one if it was nearly time to switch, and contact your dentist for advice. Wearing an older tray holds teeth in position and prevents them drifting back. A replacement can be ordered so it is waiting when you return.
Yes. With planning, your dentist can give you extra trays and instructions so treatment continues while you are away.
If the crack is small and the aligner still fits, keep wearing it and move on when due. If it is badly damaged, switch to the previous or next set as advised and contact your dentist.
Absolutely. Retainers should go with you on every trip, as teeth can begin moving within days if retainers are not worn.
